It
is the MOST POWERFUL 20-watt solar fan on the market!
During the warm summer months, all homes have something in
common called "heat gain." Heat gain occurs after the radiant
heat from the sun is absorbed through the roof and radiates
into the attic air space. Heat always moves from it's source,
to any material or surface with less heat. Thus during the
summer, radiant heat expands in all directions. Mass
insulation such as fiberglass or cellulose does not stop
radiant heat, it absorbs it. Once radiant heat passes through
the insulation, it will be conducted by the interior ceiling
and walls. Once the temperature of interior surfaces heat up,
your home is suffering heat gain.
Heat gain through the roof, attic and ceiling is the primary
cause for warm or hot houses. Of course, air conditioning can
offset the heat gain, but at what cost?
We have a Pro-ACTIVE “WHOLISTIC” solution. Our solar attic fan
is on at dawn, off at dusk, operating properly at the
temperature inversion times of the day. It actually begins to
exchange the air of your attic before the heat of the day.
Silently, all day long, at such a rate that heat-gain and
loading is all but eliminated. In addition, any wet air that
may have had a chance to enter the home from the night before
will be drawn out before the heat of the day. Thereby breaking
the compounding effects of heat and humidity oppression, and
dramatically impacting the potentials for mold and mildew. It
is common to see attic temperature drops in the summer of as
much as 60 degrees, and A.C. savings of as much as 30%
(results will vary), and in winter months where humidity
levels are highest, our operation is diminished but still
essential, as it ensures a dry attic with no added heat loss
in the home. |

How It Works:
The Dynamic of
Attic Ventilation and Temperature Inversion.
Every night, after dusk the heat of the day drifts off and
gradually the cooler, wetter air of the evening resides where
the heat of the day once had been. The next morning the
process is reversed. (Read more in “The Theory” in
documentation)
Have you ever opened your attic access and been greeted with
that blast of incredibly hot air? That’s “oppression” , and
it’s responsible for keeping every home some 12-15 degrees
hotter then it has to be. In addition, it’s the primary cause
for most mold and mildew problems found in homes today. Our
Solar fan is the only proactive solution to both these
problems

Attic
Ventilation
We’re on at dawn, exchanging the night air before the heat of
the day ever hits. Then the SDF-20 keeps temperatures lower by
exchanging the air of the attic with cooler exterior ambient
air fast enough that heat gain never gets established. By
keeping the attic air cooler, less heat can be conducted by
the ceiling, which is the primary cause of heat gain within
the house interior. In addition, we’re also going to increase
the life of your roofing, as well as anything you may have in
your attic space.
Direct Ventilation with No AC
In applications where heat gain is a problem and A.C. is not a
viable option, this fan can do dramatic things. In houses with
cathedral ceilings, we can reduce interior temperatures by
directly venting this oppression from the upper part of any
room, we allow for natural ventilation through doors and
windows. We can do the same thing with a flexible duct and a
grill for a “hot room”. Typically, most homes without central
AC have a room generally located on the south side of the home
that becomes almost unbearable throughout the afternoon. By
drawing that heat out we actually draw the cooler air from
other parts of the house toward it. The same concept works
very well with 2-story homes, by getting the oppression out we
allow the cooler air to circulate more freely.
Home owners that do rely on AC will realize increased
significant savings.

Benefits:
Dynamics of Heat Gain in
Your Attic
It is no secret that during any given summer day, most
attic temperatures can reach temperatures well above 170
degrees. It is for this reason, most homes have soffit
ventilation coupled with several small vents and gable and/or
ridge vent ventilation, this is called passive or convection
ventilation, the theory being simply stated, “hot air rises.
Unfortunately that's not all it does. It also expands and
radiates. When it doesn’t, it creates “heat oppression”. Your
roof holds heat; the air in your attic holds heat. Everything
in your attic holds heat. Every morning the sun comes up and
the roof of every home begins to broil, and the air in your
attic begins to expand, in every direction, not just up. There
is no question the vents at the ridge of your home will
exhaust air, but only as it is warmed to the point of
expansion. In short, the convection-ventilation process
actually requires a certain amount of heat retention to begin
the ventilation process! Once it’s started, the battle is
already lost! Your roof will never be cooler then the heat
load point required for convection.
Benefits
Shrink your energy bill, save money, clear the air, and
earn a home tax credit all at once. The SDF-20 reduces heat
gain! The SDF-20 can vent up to 1,275 cfm of hot air during
the summer. By reducing the amount of radiant heat that is
conducted by the ceiling, heat gain within the interior can be
dramatically reduced. Attic temperatures can reach 170° F or
more in the summer. That translates to ceiling temperatures of
100° F or more. By venting heat within the attic before it is
conducted by the ceiling, ceiling temperatures can be lowered
by 10°-30° F. Interior room temperatures can be lowered by
5°-15° F. Lower room temperatures also increase the life of
wall coverings, floor coverings, furniture and other home
furnishings. Over time, lowering home maintenance expenses can
save you money as well. There is also a tax credit for energy
efficient homes. Remember: heat is the enemy-except when
you're cold.
AC Equipment
The SDF-20 is a ventilation product that reduces utility
bills and equipment maintenance. Less interior heat gain
equates to a lower load on air conditioning equipment.
Whenever the AC compressor is off, less electricity is used.
You can save thousands of dollars in electric expenses over
the life expectancy of the SDF-20. Lower AC usage equates to
less wear and tear on the equipment which, in turn, lowers
maintenance costs. So if lowering your energy and maintenance
bills is a priority, you've come to the right place.
Roofing
The SDF-20 is a solar-powered product that increases the
life of your roof. Heat accelerates the breakdown of roof
materials. A cooler attic equates to a cooler roof which means
a longer roof life. A longer roof life saves you money, time
and frustration.
Benefits During Winter
In the winter months, ventilation reduces the build-up of
moisture in the attic and prevents ice dams. Our SDF-20
operates at a dramatically reduced rate through the winter
months. Preventing moisture build-up without affecting your
homes winter heat-gain which can result in wet insulation,
mildew, decay, cracking plaster, peeling paint and roof
damage.
Why the SDFM-20?
"The SDF-20 is powered by a 20-watt Mono crystalline
photovoltaic panel. Most solar attic fans on the market use
any 10-watt panel offered and attempt to do do what we do with
multiple fans, it simply doesn't work that way. We discovered
some 12 years ago that it's not the volume of air you can
vaccuum on a whole, it's the impact the sun has on each fan,
and the restrictions soffit ventilation has to offer. 10 watt
fans simply can't move enough air, regardless of how many you
put up there. Eventually the heat will catch up. Our fans and
panels are both matched and tuned and will operate better,
longer and through far more adverse conditions then any fan in
the business."
